35% CPU In Linux-Moving Mouse-Vista(HOST) & ubuntu(GUEST)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,

I am new to the Virtual Machine scene.
I am a programmer and have fairly good understanding of how to set this up.

I'm running Vista as a host and using VirtualBox to create Virtual Machine of an ubuntu Linux as a guest.
I setup new Virtual Machine properly with settings seen below and mounted and installed ubuntu Linux.
Everything goes fine and Virtual machine reboots and ubuntu Linux guest OS seems to run ok.

But... when I goto SYSTEM/ADMINISTRATION/SYSTEM MONITOR to see CPU load,
just moving the mouse cursor around the screen result in a huge 35% load on the CPU.
(when the OS is doing nothing else - no open programs)

This is occurring on a completely fresh installation of ubuntu with nothing changed or added.
Can someone help with this issue? Not ready to give up Windows yet and would like to able to run both OS's simultaneously.

Thanks - GREAT SOFTWARE...

Try running one more guest with a minimal (or no) system that you immediately pause after its started. That helps sometimes.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested but it did not help.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

I don't trust the guest (desktop) system-monitor. After all it is Virtual loaded down with the graphics and overhead. If you look at the process you will see that the system-monitor is using almost all of the CPU % and this is just to report it. If you use top in a terminal window the results are a lot lower and in my opinion more accurate.
