enable VT-x/AMD-V

When I enable the acceleration enable VT-x/AMD-V on an XP machine I get the following error:

Failed to start virtual machine (name of machine)
VT-x is not avialable. (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)
Unknown erro creating VM (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)

I can disable the accelerator but I hope that there is a way to somehow make it work.

The guest is an XP-home and the host is vista with a quad processor.

AMD Phenom for sure, some intel like Q8xxx dont

check if it is enabled in BIOS. On my HP xw its found in "Security" -> "OS Security"

You are right.
I enabled the BIOS setting for VT and the systems boots but then it crashes.
I tried it a few times and once I got this error

Windows XP Home, Must restart because DCOM server process launcher service terminated

Any ideas?

It is a PC and I let it shut down for a while and miraculously it worked!
Now to the next problem which I am sure is also common.
I got a very fast pc with 8gb of memory and allocated about 3.5gb to the host xp home. The problem is that the CPU is maxed out all the time and it uses no more than .5 gb RAM. I have changed the driver to multicore but it still does not recognize multiple cores and now I am actually slower than before with one core.
Is there a remedy for that?

unless you use the new vbox 3.0.0-beta there is only one core for the guest

That fix does not work for service pack 3. I downloaded it and I got the message that it did not install it because the system configuration does not require it.
Still searching for the solution. I wonder if I should start a topic.

It did not work. The system is still crippeling slow.
I have moved my old physical machine on xp home to a VM when upgrading my computer.
The idea was to be able to use the system exactly how I had it before but put it on faster hardware and unfortunately it is now even slower.
Like I said, even if I allocate about 2-3 gb to the system it never runs on more than 500k and the processor is constantly at 100%.
I hope there will be a solution for that because I googled it and it appears prevalent.
