enable VT-x/AMD-V
When I enable the acceleration enable VT-x/AMD-V on an XP machine I get the following error:
Failed to start virtual machine (name of machine)
VT-x is not avialable. (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)
Unknown erro creating VM (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)
Details
Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {a7f17a42-5b64-488d-977b-4b2c639ada27}
I can disable the accelerator but I hope that there is a way to somehow make it work.
The guest is an XP-home and the host is vista with a quad processor.
Thanks a lot.

I enabled the BIOS setting for VT and the systems boots but then it crashes.
I tried it a few times and once I got this error
Windows XP Home, Must restart because DCOM server process launcher service terminated
Any ideas?
Thanks

Cold boot the PC/laptop after enabling vt-x, remove battery if laptop for a minute.

Re: enable VT-x/AMD-V
It is a PC and I let it shut down for a while and miraculously it worked!vbox4me2 wrote:Cold boot the PC/laptop after enabling vt-x, remove battery if laptop for a minute.
Now to the next problem which I am sure is also common.
I got a very fast pc with 8gb of memory and allocated about 3.5gb to the host xp home. The problem is that the CPU is maxed out all the time and it uses no more than .5 gb RAM. I have changed the driver to multicore but it still does not recognize multiple cores and now I am actually slower than before with one core.
Is there a remedy for that?

Upon googleing I have found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256
This is for service pack 2 and I am already at service pack 3 but I will try it later today and report the result.
Did anybody try that?

Re: enable VT-x/AMD-V
That fix does not work for service pack 3. I downloaded it and I got the message that it did not install it because the system configuration does not require it.docaz wrote:docaz wrote:It is a PC and I let it shut down for a while and miraculously it worked!vbox4me2 wrote:Cold boot the PC/laptop after enabling vt-x, remove battery if laptop for a minute.

Still searching for the solution. I wonder if I should start a topic.
Re: enable VT-x/AMD-V
Create another VM and let it run idle, is VM-1 still peeking cpu then?

Re: enable VT-x/AMD-V
It did not work. The system is still crippeling slow.vbox4me2 wrote:Create another VM and let it run idle, is VM-1 still peeking cpu then?
I have moved my old physical machine on xp home to a VM when upgrading my computer.
The idea was to be able to use the system exactly how I had it before but put it on faster hardware and unfortunately it is now even slower.
Like I said, even if I allocate about 2-3 gb to the system it never runs on more than 500k and the processor is constantly at 100%.
I hope there will be a solution for that because I googled it and it appears prevalent.
Re: enable VT-x/AMD-V
See the quickclik FAQ in my sig. But also play with the VM settings such as APIC and vt-x on/off, often that makes a huge difference.
