Virtualbox on JeOS?

Post by ChrisBailey »

Hello, I'm planning to configure Virtualbox on my server using JeOS as the host OS. Before I get started I had a few questions that might help me in the future. I am new to VM's and virtualization and spent most of the day trying to get ESXi to work for my needs, but then found out it wasn't the right solution. So, if anyone can tell me if Virtualbox will allow me to do the following, I would appreciate it.

I have 3 client systems, only 2 of which will every be in use at once. So my server will never be burdened with more than 2 running VM's. I would like to be able to have full control of a VM from each client system, so that it can be shutdown with the press of a button when it is finished. I would also like the clients to be able to "boot" directly into a VM of my choice (selectable at boot time?). I'm not sure how resource intensive virtual box is, but my server is limited so a smaller memory footprint would be preferable. I tried using ESXi for just that reason, but I don't like that the management system is windows only. Anyways, is this possible with VirtualBox?
