Can't uncapture

Post by pluMmet »

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit host with XP 32 bit client.

When I hit right Ctrl the icon changes like it should but my mouse can never leave the client window.
When I hit right Ctrl again I get a pop up that it's going to capture my mouse and keyboard.

My goal is to have XP running on one of my Compiz desktops permanently and just be able to rotate to a Ubuntu desktop.

Have you installed the guest additions?

No I've had very bad results with that. This is my 4th try at getting this to work. When I install the guest additions it doesn't help and I get a popup thru Ubuntu that covers my XP window and I can't see it and I can't click on the popup to get rid of it since my mouse never leaves the Guest window.

So I guess the answer has been yes but it didn't help.

Currently No as it just locks everything up and I have to do it all over again.

You do know that the guest additions are installed inside the guest right? It should not have anything to do with the host, and no reason for the host to popup anything.

Yes I am aware of that... None the less when virtual box decides to give me a pop up it's a Ubuntu controlled popup that conveniently pops up over my virtualized xp window there by blocking it.

Right now when I hit right Ctrl I can using the arrow keys get rid of any VB popups. Not with my mouse though because that's stuck in xp's control.

Once I install the guest additions though I'm screwed because I can no longer use the arrow keys to get rid of any VB/Ububtu popups that come over my xp guest window.

Then I start all over again installing windows.

Isn't the right Ctrl supposed to give Ubuntu control over my mouse and keyboard even without any guest additions installed?

The pop up was about my mouse being captured...

My right Ctrl stopped working at all...so I installed guest additions again and this time I was quick enough to get the seemless popup, don't show this box again clicked then hit ok in the VB pop up.

So now I can see my XP VB window but the mouse is invisible and it's not seemless even though I have the new seemless icon at the bottom of the VB window.

This sounds like a problem with VBox and Compiz.
I seem to remember something about it from the past.
Try putting VBox and compiz site:forums.virtualbox.org in Google.com and seeing if you can find the fix.
