Hello,
I need to use activesync underXP to install a software. My PDA (HTC touch pro 2) is seen as USB peripheral " HTC Generic serial" which I believe correct.
This peripheral is always greyed and I can't connect to it.
I'm using Mandriva 2009.1 and VB 2.2.2 (non OSE)
the command VBoxManage list usbhost says it's available...but won't capture.. :(
I have added it in the USB filter

Code: Select all

VBoxManage list usbhost
UUID:               bf65694d-d0ae-4989-8357-ac5663c12b54
VendorId:           0x0bb4 (0BB4)
ProductId:          0x0a2f (0A2F)
Revision:           0.0 (0000)
Manufacturer:       HTC
Product:            Generic Serial
SerialNumber:       3fbf5000-7351-0801-3588-450200662500
Address:            /proc/bus/usb/007/012
Current State:      Available
NOTE: Other USB devices work

Is this a serial to USB converter? There have been plenty of them discussed here and to my knowledge they do not work in VirtualBox at this time.

I tested my Nokia N95 on Mandriva 2009.1 and that wasn't captured either. I became a little puzzled over the fact that it was mounted under /proc/bus/usb, modern systems shouldn't do that, my openSUSE11.1 doesn't. So I commented out those lines:
#if [ "x$SPEEDBOOT" != "xyes" ]; then
#if [ ! -d /proc/bus/usb ]; then
# modprobe usbcore >/dev/null 2>&1 && mount -n -t usbfs -o devmode=0664,devgid=43 /proc/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb
#else
# mount -n -t usbfs -o devmode=0664,devgid=43 /proc/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb
#fi
#fi #SPEEDBOOT

They are lines 90-96 in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and after a reboot my Nokia worked in VirtualBox 2.2.4 and guest XP.
Only problem I can see is an old TDK Bluetooth dongle won't come up at boot in the host, but it does come up if I unplug and plug it in again, or if I enable it in the XP guest and disables it again. Might be something to try!

It works.
Need to start the PC with the cell phone already plugged in.
