Anyone have suggestions for better video playback from within a virtual machine?
I'm using version 2.2.4 (Vista host, Ubuntu guest) and I have 3D support enabled, but the video playback is terrible. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why don't you send us the settings for the guest along with the amount of Host RAM that you have so we can try to figure out what the problem might be.

Re: help with video playback performance
My computer has 4gb of Ram, with 512mb dedicated to the Ubuntu guest, and 64mb set for the guest video. I have added more ram to the guest (both base and video memory) but it doesn't seem to make a change. Enabling 3D acceleration did not make a difference either. I don't know if this matters, but my video card is a nvidia gt7600 with 256mb.

Re: help with video playback performance
Video playback is really CPU intensive in a Virtual Machine. You did not mention what the processor speed is but I suggest that you give the guest at least 1024 Meg of RAM and try to give 128 Meg of Vram. Loose the 3D because it will not help and takes resources. Pause as much as you can in the host when watching Video playback. With that said I guess I need to ask why are you trying to use the VM for Video Playback? IMHO It will not play at the rate the Host can at least not at this time.

Re: help with video playback performance
Thank you. I tried the suggested settings and it seems to help quite a bit. I guess I was expecting the guest to be nearly equal to the host in performance, so I thought something might be wrong with my setup. Thanks again for clearing this up for me.
