Known problem. Either uninstall 2.2.0 and then install 2.2.4 or right click on the install icon and left click on run as admin and select repair. Reboot when complete
Re: Impossible to install 2.2.4 on windows xp pro sp3 as host
Unable to uninstall the 2.2.0 one.
Neither using 2.2.0 installer nor from windows control panel.
Each attempt ends with "rolling back the changes" phase.
2.2.4 installer doesn't offer the repair option. It can only do the installation.
I could attach here the logs of sysinternals Process Monitor, but they have a size of 2 until 3 MB.

Have you tried right clicking on the 2.2.0 install and run as admin, then select uninstall?

Yes, I tried it. This attempt stops with the procedure "rolling back the action" as well.Perryg wrote:Have you tried right clicking on the 2.2.0 install and run as admin, then select uninstall?

I'm having the same issue. Running install package as administrator doesn't start.

Re: Impossible to install 2.2.4 on windows xp pro sp3 as host
Hi
I had the same issue with 2.2.0 and could not get it fixed using the methods mentioned above.
In another thread (on Vista) I found a solution that worked for me on Win XP pro Sp3:
- go to the windows control panel for software add/remove program
- instead of "remove", select the "change" button.
- when asked, select "repair". This will reset some of your install settings
- when finished I could: upgrade to 2.2.4 and remove 2.2.0 and install 2.2.4 from scratch
Hope this helps.

Re: Impossible to install 2.2.4 on windows xp pro sp3 as host
I am in a slightly different scenario.
I am able to uninstall the old version of Virtual Box without any issue via Add/Remove Software in Control Panel.
When I try to install Virtual Box 2.2.4, after some drivers were installed, the installation completion bar is full except the install never finish. I waited for about 1/2 hour and no luck. Any hint or advice?
On a side note, I was able to install Virtual Box 2.1.4 successfully but after I created a new guest OS and click on "Settings" in the Virtual Box GUI, Virtual Box just hung-up. No response what so ever. Any idea?

Re: Impossible to install 2.2.4 on windows xp pro sp3 as host
I've managed to uninstall V2.2.2 by doing a repair first, but have the same problem as beyonddc when trying to install 2.2.4. The last windows driver warning I got before it hangs is for 'VirtualBox Bridged NetworkDriver Miniport' if that helps shed some light on the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It appears that for some reason something is being left behind that is causing problem with the upgrade. Others have had success by using Revo Uninstaller and then installing the new copy of Virtualbox.

Sounds like a plan!Perryg wrote:It appears that for some reason something is being left behind that is causing problem with the upgrade. Others have had success by using Revo Uninstaller and then installing the new copy of Virtualbox.
Do you recommendation is to reinstall Virtual Box and then use Revo Uninstaller to remove it then do another install?

Thanks for the suggestion but...Perryg wrote:It appears that for some reason something is being left behind that is causing problem with the upgrade. Others have had success by using Revo Uninstaller and then installing the new copy of Virtualbox.
I'm not exactly sure what happened but I tried to install V2.2.2 again followed by V2.2.4 and it worked OK this time.
Weird!

From what I have read it should be good enough to just use revo to uninstall and then you can load the newest version of VBox without a problem.beyonddc wrote:Sounds like a plan!Perryg wrote:It appears that for some reason something is being left behind that is causing problem with the upgrade. I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks!Perryg wrote: From what I have read it should be good enough to just use revo to uninstall and then you can load the newest version of VBox without a problem.
BTW, do you have the URL where you read about Revo Uninstaller would solve the problem? I am interested to read more about it myself. Thanks!
