Host won't shut down after using VBox

Post by raevol »

Hello! I'm using Virtualbox 2.2.4 PUEL on a Xubuntu 9.04 host, installed from the VBox official repos. My guest is a fully service packed/patched Win XP. Whenever I use virtualbox, everything is great, but then when I go to shut down my host it hangs partway through the shutdown process and doesn't do anything until I hard reset it. While shutting down it seems to close my session, but never gets to displaying usplash and the rest of the shutdown. I've found that I get this same behavior (after running vbox) when trying to log out, it closes my session, but then just hangs with a black screen (monitor on) and never reboots X.

I want to file a bug ticket for this, but I was wondering what sort of log I could attach to the bug to discern what is going on. I can confirm that this happens every time I run VBox, and I get normal healthy behavior from my host if I don't run VBox. I'm just too noob with linux to know what log to look at. Thanks!
