Can only connect guest and host with IP address only
I have a Windows 7 guest running on an XP host. I've shared folders on both and enabled sharing in the guest. I can map the shared folder on the host if I use the IP address (\\192.168.0.105\l_download) but not using the host name (\\zeus\l_download). In a dos window I can ping the host's IP address but not the host's name. When I open an Explorer window in the guest I can see only the guest in the Network section, not the host (by name or IP). Any ideas?

Add them to your hosts file
Example: 127.0.0.1 localhost
Example: 127.0.0.1 localhost

Thanks - that worked but it's not mentioned in the user docs so I'm wondering if i just missed something in my setup or config of the host or guest.

No it is not documented as it is a basic network issue and some things they take as standard understandings.
It would take volumes to cover every aspect.

I wasn't dissing the docs - it IS a very basic networking step. I'm just not that versed in it and didn't think of it. Since I don't have to do it on the other computers of my home network it didn't occur to me to do it on the guest.
