I did an upgrade to 2.2.4 few days back from 2.2.2.
I am running Windows XP in my Dell Laptop and running Ubuntu (Jaunty) as my guest.
Things were working smoothly until I upgraded to 2.2.4. I use to have Bridged Network working
when I had 2.2.0 version of VBox.
However after upgrading to 2.2.4, my Bridged Network is not working at all.
I did an ifconfig on my Ubuntu guest and I got an IP from my DHCP server (My company's network)
The ifconfig looks good and similar to the one on my Windows XP (Host), in terms of net mask, gateway, dns servers etc.
However I cannot get out of my guest at all. (Ping, netstat, wget nothing works).
All of this happened after my upgrade. I did several un install and re install of 2.2.4.
The funny thing is my NetworkManager says is it connected. Ifconfig gives all correct information including the IP from my DHCP server.
I am at a loss. Did any of you encounter similar issue?
My NAT is working fine though. But then I need to get my Bridged network working because other developers in my team depend on my
Ubuntu guest as I am running some databases there.
Please help
Thanks
Venki

Re: Bridged Network Issue -WindowsXP Host with Ubuntu Guest
I suspect that you had a problem with the install more specifically the upgrade in Windows.
- Reinstall VirtualBox by right clicking the install icon and left clicking run as administrator.
- Select repair when given the choice and then reboot after you have completed the re-installation.

Re: Bridged Network Issue -WindowsXP Host with Ubuntu Guest
I did right click on the executable and did "Run as" and used my user id to run the installation program.
My userid is added to the Administrators group. So I should have admin privileges to run the installation program.
I did a "Repair" this time and restarted the computer. Same problem, my guest is able to obtain an IP address from my DHCP server, however I am not able to get out using any one of the following (ping, ssh, wget, tracert etc)
Is there a way to sniff the traffic coming out my guest (Ubuntu) network using wireshark installed on my host machine (XP). Since I am getting a proper IP address from my DHCP server, I am thinking something is blocking my packets reaching the outside world.
However I am able to ping the host (which got a different ip address from my DHCP server) successfully. This confuses me because why my guest packets are going till host but not outside of my host, even though I am on the bridged network.
Can somebody shed some light on this.
Thanks

Look for a firewall problem or if you have a vpn client that has a firewall built in.

Re: Bridged Network Issue -WindowsXP Host with Ubuntu Guest
I shutdown all firewall application on my host machine. Still the problem persists
I am able to talk to the host from guest and vice versa, the problem is getting to the outside world (outside my host).
How can I verify that my VirtualBox installation (2.2.4) is successfull in terms of installing all Network drivers and interfaces.
It is so frustrating, everything was working fine till I upgraded to 2.2.4 and then I am back to NAT now.
Thanks
