Two questions

Post by noelc »

Hi guys,

I,m running virtual box 2.2.4 with windows XP as the O/S the host system is Ubuntu 9.02 64 bit. Is there a way i can run the XP box using the full screen. When Ivselect full screen mode only the box consumes the screen while XP remains a small box in the centre?

Also I,m not sure why but XP is not recognizing me external hard drive when plugged into a USB port.

IS the above two point settings or a configuration requirement please help.

Thanks

Install the Guest Additions for your VM.

Hi thanks for the info.

I've installed guest additions and full screen (Seamless mode) works well. I overlooked guest additions due to my frustration with the below

Still cant work out why my VB is not detecting my external hard drive. I,ve connected via a number of USB ports as well as a sata port. With the USB icon at the bottom right hand corner of the VM screen I,m given only three mounting options. One is the printer no problem, one is a card reader (monitor has a reader) so presume no problem the other is for an optical mouse. I dont have one. I checked all available option for USB in the settings tab.

For a work around I've tried to access my external hard drive by networking it within the VM settings which VM can see the path however when exploring windows folder tree and activating the networking path the external drive is seen however when activating the folder VM freezes.

Is this a known bug.

The only other way to access my files would be to load them from the external drive into a Ubuntu folder and network to this. I,d much rather the quicest acess way which I beleive is directly to the external hard drive.

Running Ubuntu 9.2 (64 bit) as the host and VM version 2.2.4 with Windows XP as the VM operating system.

Thanks for the help

Unplug usb device, start your VM, focus the VM, plug in usb device. Or try this with an empty usb filter.
