[SOLVED] VBox 2.2.4 + Ubuntu 9.0.4: Seamless & Borderless

Post by ww9rivers »

Hi,

I have been running VBox on Windows XP with a Ubuntu 8.04 guest installation for a while and today I upgraded my Ubuntu guest to 8.10 and then 9.04 and I got a strange problem: All application windows come up border-less when I run Ubuntu in seamless mode -- They are fine when Ubuntu is running in any other mode. In seamless mode, any window that is on top of a Windows application should show no borders, while any portion of that window on top of another Ubuntu application would show borders. The rest of the Ubuntu application window seems to function just fine.

For example, if I open a gnome-terminal, I can use the shell inside it. However, I can not resize it or move it without the borders.

I am not sure if this is a bug or something that I missed when I did my system upgrades. I did re-install the Guest Additions, etc.

Thanks! Any pointers are much appreciated.
Edit: : As Perryg suggested, the problem was with 3D effects. I did not do anything to compiz. Once I turned "System >> Preferences >> Appearance >> Visual Effects" setting from "Normal" to "None", I get window borders in seamless mode. Thanks!!!

I have a small re-size issue in mine but the biggest problem with seamless is due to compiz and 3D effects.
I turned off my 3D effects and shut off the compiz program and my seamless works well.

Also if you are running cairo dock you will need to search the forum. Use cairo dock site:forums.virtualbox.org in Google
