another 'no keyboard'

Post by xeros »

Host: Lenny with KDE 3.5.10 (pkgs from deb main with no special tweaks)
Virtualbox 2.2.4

I have about a dozen VMs, none of which has caused a problem until I installed and booted Myah-OS-3.1-Dragon-Alpha.iso. Got to the login but the name/passwd didn't work, and the right-Ctrl wouldn't work. Couldn't get out of the VM because the keyboard just stopped working.

After a reboot, the host had the 'no keyboard' issue. The mouse was back yet the keyboard behavior was strange. It worked to enter the login password, and it worked in the console, but it was useless once the desktop was running.

I'll skip the details of what I tried, which included the PS/2 adapter for the USB keyboard. I eventually discovered something which lead to resolving this: the keyboard was actually working but was too slow to easily notice. Had to hold down a key for 5-6 seconds in order for it to work (which may be why Myah's password didn't work).

Resolution for this issue and system:
KControl > Regional&Accessibility > Accessibility > Keyboard Filters and UN-click "Slow Keys"

For whatever reason, Slow Keys was enabled. Disabling it got the keyboard working normally on the host desktop.

One other item was affected and easily corrected: the host system clock was reset to 15 hours earlier.

I reinstalled Virtualbox 2.2.4 and the host and VMs now work correctly.
