I use Ubuntu v9.04 and use the VB from their repository.
Loaded it up, and installed Windows XP, all worked perfectly.
THE ONE PROBLEM
I cannot access any of my three hard drives with data. I cannot access my firewall REV drive, I cannot access USB.
I could live without drive access, or REV access, but I need USB access as I don't have a floppy drive for transferring data.
I have read the advice elsewhere re USB but in my version of VB (2.1.4_OSE) there are no references anywhere to USB, even under Settings, greyed out or otherwise. Am I missing something here?
At present I email files I need to myself, and this is clogging up the Internet from London to California back to London each time.

Re: Can't find any files
You need the PUEL version of VirtualBox to be able to use USB. It does not come with the OSE version

Re: Can't find any files
If you install the guest addtions then you can setup shared folders between host and guest.
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Re: Can't find any files
Thanks, I have deleted the lite edition, and installed the full edition. Not fully working yet, but I'll get there. One question - can you send me a link for the "guest addins" page as I can't find it.

Ampers,
Gebruik Engels voor het forum.
Start the guest and then click on the device tab at the top. Then click install guest additions.
If for some reason nothing happens then click the device tab and then unmount CD and then click on install guest additions.

Re: Can't find any files
Thanks for that, I now have these.
Lots of little things signify this program has a little way to go to be perfect, but, on the whole, it will do what I want which is to run InDesign. Scribus may be OK in the longer term but I need to use it now and haven't the time for the learning curve to bring my knowledge of Scribus up to scratch. (I am starting up a community newspaper in Finchley, London.)
