Error Installing Windows XP Embedded with Virtual Box

Hi everyone,

Im tryining to install Windows XP Embedded on VB 2.2.4

I'm getting the following errors: FATAL: No bootable medium found. System halted.

- My host system is Windows XP
- I downloaded the Windows XP Embedded from Microsoft's website, it is the evaluation/trial version.
- The file is an .ISO, I have confirmed that it is bootable by mounting it to Daemon.
- The boot order is: Floppy, CD/DVD, Harddisk
- I've mounted the .ISO in Settings -> CD/DVD ROM-> Mount CD/DVD Drive -> ISO Image File
- I've tried using Host CD/DVD Drive, and mounted the .ISO to Daemon's virtual drive (in this case, F:). I've selected the F Drive in the Settings. Through this method, I tried with "Enable Passthrough" and without.
- The harddisk I created used VB's default values: 512MB ram, 20GB
- Uninstalled and reinstalled VB.

I've searched and read the end user doc, and I'm starting to hit a wall. Could anyone offer any tips or resolutions? Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
I see that when I select an .ISO in Mount CD/DVD Drive under Settings, it shows the .ISO as "not attached" under "Attached:" What does this mean?

I just downloaded it and all I got was a 175 Kb file called XPEFFI.exe which is the Microsoft Windows XP Embedded, SP2 Update Evaluation Edition, installer.
What is the file that you got, or did you pay for the CD to be sent to you. I could not find the entire package on line.

Hi Perry,

First, thank you for your help.

From the first link I gave you, did you click on the link, "Download a Windows XP Embedded Trial"? If so, it should take you to a log in link, as well as a questionnaire before allowing you to download. There are 7 parts to download, at 700MB each.

Also, I ran this through Daemon and it gave me the option to install. I installed it on my Windows XP..as a program?

The trial version is the "standard" version:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedde ... fault.mspx

The description is in the link. Does that mean that this is a program, and not an OS install? If so, there's my problem. Could you confirm from the description? Again, thanks for all your help!

I don't know but it must be installed in a working version of Windows as stated in their system requirements I snipped below. You can contact one of their partners and ask them but that's all I see.

• Minimum Requirements
o CPU: 728 MHz Pentium-class processor or higher
o OS: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4 (or later) or Windows XP Professional
o Drive: CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
o Mouse: Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
