Whole virtual machine on external USB drive

I have a virtual machine on a USB drive.
I want to use this machine on several PCs with Windows XP and I want to use the snapshot function, so I can save my open programs and so on (since hibernating of virtualized windows doesn't work).
Despite I have to manually setup my hardware config for that machine on every PC, it won't really work with the snapshots.
Please help me so that I can fastly switch my machine between PCs.

Thank you in advance.

hey I'm trying to do something similar. I have multiple Os on different partitions on the same computer.

I currently have a dedicated Partition for Virtual Machines, so that I can use any VM, no matter what Os' im using. But it seems the only way to do this is to create a new machine on every partition, then link the hard drive vdi file. But then the snapshots arent attached.

Have you figured out how to do this yet?
