Trying to setup a com port to use as a serial console

Hi
running a windows server 2003 host with a Solaris 10 guest. Trying to setup a serial port so i can console in (instead of using the VB interface).the settings in VB are
Port 1
Port Number = COM1
Port Mode = Host Device
Port / File Path = COM1
When I try to boot the virtual Solaris instance it complains about COM1 and stops booting. (It boots normally when I remove all the port settings)
Any Ideas? thanks in advance
