I can't seem to get bridge networking running in my Vista 64 host machine, using either Windows 7 RC1 or Windows 2000 SP4 as the guest. NAT runs fine. I originally updated from 2.1.4 to 2.2.4 but tried a clean reinstall and reboot according to suggestions I read from elsewhere. My full machine specs are in my sig. Any tips?

I think that you should try to reinstall VirtualBox by right clicking on the install icon and left clicking on run as admin. Then select repair. Once the install is complete then reboot the host machine.

Vista has an inherent problem with the UAC that causes some installers to have a problem.

I'm the admin on this machine and UAC is turned off, that shouldn't be a problem. At any rate, I tried it and rebooted and still no go.

Which adapter have you selected for VBox to use on both of the VM's?

i'm having a problem with bridged adapter. tried following the suggestions here to no avail. running windows 7 x64 rc1. uac off from the beginning of install. can't get bridged working for anything. is this a nic related issue?
my nic is a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)

also, using the pcnet-pci II x970a but not seeing it for anything else anyway.

While in bridged mode you need to get the IP info and post them here for the host and the guest.

The only thing I can guess at is that maybe I need to enable IP Routing on my host?

Do you have a router or is the Internet connection plugged direct into your computer?
If you don't have a cheap router, bridged is not going to work for you and you will need to use host-only and NAT (use of 2 adapters in VBox - See the Users Guide for instructions) for this to work.

My host machine connects wirelessly to a router downstairs, but I am using a gaming adapter to convert the wireless signal to ethernet.

For some reason the guest is not seeing this router and trying to connect to the host via the host-only adapter.

Things to check:

Make sure that when you select the Bridged adapter in the VBox settings that you select the interface that your host is actively using to connect to the Internet.
Also make sure that you do not have multiple adapters setup in the VBox settings of the guest.
Also make sure that you do not have a firewall issue, this can keep the guest from talking to the host.

I assume that you are using this gaming adapter as an access unit to connect to the access point. If this is not the case you will need to explain better what you mean. If this is an access unit you need to make sure that it will allow multiple ip addresses and not a single one-to-one unit.

i have a cheap router at home, but i don't see what my router has to do with an option for selecting what adapter i want to bridge not being present in the least. also, i use bridge on my laptop which usually connects to not cheap cisco routers, but again not seeing why that would be an issue because bridged mode gives me options on my laptop whether or not i am even on a network, and it also connects to my network at home just the same on my laptop. i use vbox on three machines, and this is the only one not providing me an option to select what adapter i want to bridge, regardless of which router gives me an ip.

it's not that bridged isn't getting a connection it's that bridge mode does not allow me to select an adapter to bridge with.

just re-read this thread, not sure if that's happening here is what's happening with mine. i guess they have the option and it's not working. sorry for my confusion if that's the case.

Yes, I'm using it instead of a wifi card essentially. I'll check the settings on the device and see if there's an option for allowing multiple IPs. It's a Linksys Gaming Adapter.

I was instructing oldbushie now to your issue. Does bridged work for the other guests that you show in your profile, and is it only Win 7 that you can not change?
Also when you are trying to select the adapter you want is the guest shutdown on in saved mode?

i can't say about other guests. this is the first time running it on my new home machine so i only have one vm going right now. it was always off when i changed those settings. unfortunately i'm not home right now. but, i do have another laptop that's running windows 7 x64 rc1 as a host with a vm for windows 7 rc32 bit. so i will see if that has options for bridged but i couldn't find out about the home box until i'm home later.
