How does virtual box works?

Hi there.

I was testing virtual box and I was wondering how does that stuff works?

How virtual box virtualize the system in the theory? How it communicates with the host system's kernel and the hardware? Does it makes paravirtualization as Xen does?

I need this for a job i'm making for my class.
