My Base OS is Vista x64. I have a shared folder c:\VMShare. VBox is also running from this drive as is the guest OS. Is this the problem?

I have setup the share in VBox and called it Shared.

My Guest OS is Windows 7 x64. I type net use c: \\vboxsvr\VMShare -p, using the windows cmd I get System error 85 has occured.

The local device name is already in use.

I have also tried net use c: \\vboxsvr\Shared -p. I get a system error with this as well.

What am I doing wrong.

A 2nd question where do I down load the guest additions, I cannot find them anywhere?????

Windows cannot access \\vboxsvr\Shared

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a prolem with your network. To
try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

Diagnose Cancel

Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found

Diagnose is set:

Make sure the computer or device is turned and connected to the
network

Windows can't find "vboxsrv". If the computer or device you are trying to reach is nearby, make
sure it is turned on and connected the network. Otherwise, contact your network administrator
to asistance

Its not 'shared', I picked that up wrong from perry's example, its "Personal", "Work" and "Desktop" as share names the TS mentioned.

You can not use c: for the net share you must use a different letter. You already have a c: which in the primary drive. Try it again with z: or x: as the book tells you to do.

As for the guest additions they are on you PC and your share is never going to work until you get the guest additions loaded. Click on the device tab at the top of the window and then install guest additions. If nothing happens then click on unmount CD and then click again on the install guest additions.

Hi everybody,

I have win xp 32 bits using virtualbox to mount Ubuntu. Installed vboxadd but I don´t know if it installed correctly. I shared a folder with the settings in VM.
I try to map a network in my win xp,but I can not find in the Entire Network-->VirtualBox Shared Folders. I try it with the comand L:\Documents and Settings\cvalencia>net use l: \\vboxsvr\Ubuntu but it shows:
system Error 85.
can you help me please?
