2.2.4 Guest Additions don't install on Win 7

I very recently installed VBox 2.2.2 on my XP/SP3 host machine (4GB mem). Guest Additions installed successfully in a Win 7 guest (1024MB vm). When 2.2.4 was announced I downloaded and installed it. Now, when I try to install Guest Additions I see a brief flash of a 'cmd' screen which I think says that there is not enough memory for the program to run. Nevertheless the Win 7 guest still seems to benefit from the previously installed 2.2.2 additions. Mouse function is correct; I can see host files.

The Linux Guest Additions have installed quite correctly on Ubuntu904.

Any comments would be very welcome.

Rod.

First welcome to the forum,

There are a few things that you can try. First do not give the guest (Windows 7) more than half of you total memory.
The other thing that I have seen is the Guest Additions need to be installed from the Device tab of VBox. First (once the guest is started) click on the device tab and then click on unmout the CD/DVD. Then click install guest additions. It should take off and install for you then.

Thank you for the welcome, PerryG. I believe I have used the correct process to install Additions as witness the fact that they have worked as intended on 2.2.2. Interestingly the same problem occurs on my laptop whose host OS is Vista/SP1. As the laptop is not as fast as my desktop the 'cmd' screen is slightly more visible and this is where the 'not enough memory' message can just be detected. On neither of my systems is the guest OS using more than half the hardware memory.

Regards, Rod.

I understand but did you try clicking un-mount the CD/DVD and then click on install guest additions? This has to be 95% of why they will not install in Windows. Not doubting your ability just that I have seen this so many times and it never fails.

Also since you say you upgraded it may be possible that the install was not fully taken. You can re-install and select repair by right clicking the VBox install icon and then left clicking run as admin. select repair and reboot when it is complete. The try to guest additions and see if they will install.

My apologies. If I had actually done what you said (unmounting the CD) instead of getting on my high horse, it would have worked.

Thank you.
