USB Port w/o Device attached

Post by Memnoch »

I'm using PUEL version 1.5.2 and am trying to get USB support configured properly on my guest OS.
Basically, I need to install some software, but I can't because it doesn't recognize any USB ports on in the vm.

I can setup the USB support and access already attached devices just fine, but it appears that USB support is only for devices that are already attached to the host.
I need this software installation to recognize a USB port on the VB vm that doesn't have a device attached to it. The device will be attached after the software is installed.

This doesn't seem to be possible though.

Any idea this software doesn't detect a USB port within my VB vm?

That is abit difficult since windows detects most USB ports as 1 or 2 Root Hubs and doesn't separate the ports properly, so not only would it be difficult to figure out which port you would be assigning for the VM,you would have a couple of USB Ports under the same name and would not be able to assign them properly! without accidentally assigning your mouse into the VM by accident for instance.

You can setup device filters so that the device you plugin will automatically go into the VM if that helps, but it is difficult if you don't know the device information first!
