Black Display on Guests

After doing a pre-upgrade from Fedora 10 (Cambridge) to Fedora 11 (Leonidas), I now can't run any VMs within VirtualBox. The issue is a clone of this, that was apparantly fixed in VBox 1.6.2, but may have reappeared with the latest versions of SDL.

I realise that F11 is technically still in RC (the release date got pushed back due to problems with the Anaconda partitioner, but that didn't affect me doing an in-place upgrade) but since VBox RPMs have been made available for F11, I'd assume that it was at least supported.

Edit
System information is the following:

VirtualBox: 2.2.4 AMD64 (installed fresh with Fedora 11 RPM)
Host: Fedora 11 (Leonidas) x64 - in-place upgrade from Fedora 10
Guests: Ubuntu 9.04, Windows XP, Windows Vista
Memory: 4GB DDR2
CPU: Intel Q9550, overclocked to 3.4GHz
SDL version: 1.2.13-9.fc11

Update to the problem: after looking at various support tickets, the command VBoxSDL -startvm works. I've downloaded and compiled SDL from the libsdl website but still nothing in the main GUI.
