2 newbie questions = netconfig +clone

Post by vmn3wb »

im sure these are the most low level questions of all time, but i need help,

i have two unrelated questions here, but firstly, how do you use a clone to "restore" a virtual machine, back to the original state,
secondly, i was messing around trying to restore using the clone, and i somehow messed up my original vm, so know i have a changing ip in the virtual machine, and the address is 10.0.1.15 or somehting like that, how can i make it the a more regular address, and make it static.

thank you for replying

A clone is used when you want to use an installed Guest as a second VM, without installing everything again. Restoring a VM to it's original state isn't really how it's used. You can easily copy the VDI to a backup location and then restore it, replacing the original file. That will work a bit better, because you don't have to re-register an image and remove the old one.

As for your network, you need to know which setting you used before the mess-up. The IP you get now is when the VM NIC is attached to NAT. You probably used Bridged, so the VM will be a part of your network.
