Since there are other topics where people have obviously installed VirtualBox on a Windows 7 host, I suspect that I might be doing something wrong. When attempting to run the installer (currently, "VirtualBox-2.2.4-47978-Win", I am told that it is not a valid Win32 application. I was originally running it from a network share, and thought that a permission issue might exist, so I brought it over to my local desktop; no luck. I ran it as administrator; no luck. I turned on compatibility mode (XP SP3); no luck. I re-downloaded the installer; no luck. I am seeing this error under both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of Windows 7, build 7100.
Have I missed something obvious?
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Re: Unable to run the VirtualBox installer under Windows 7
Well, the most obvious one is that W7 is still in development, and things don't have to work. It's not supported by the team as official Host, and MS advises not to use W7 as production system. Once W7 is final, official support will come. For now, if it doesn't work, blame MS, sorry.

Re: Unable to run the VirtualBox installer under Windows 7
I run VirtualBox on Windows 7 and it runs great. I've had no unusual issues that other people haven't had as well. I've used 2.2.0, 2.2.2, 2.2.4 on Windows 7 64bit... the 7000 beta and 7100 RC.
No issues to report.
It really sounds like your download is corrupted in some way. I would try to redownload, in a different way if you can. If you downloaded it in IE, try Firefox. If you're using Wireless, try hooking up directly.

Downloading the ISO with IE doesn't work anyway, because of some stupid file size limit. It's even on their download page, that you need to use a different browser or a download manager to get the file, because IE can't handle the size.

Re: Unable to run the VirtualBox installer under Windows 7
You were right, MasterEvilAce - for whatever reason, downloading the installer via FireFox consistently resulted in a corrupted file. I brought it down via Internet Explorer and all is well. I am embarrassed that I did not think of this possibility, but appreciate that you did!
