hi
can it run from windows 98?
if your running virtualbox and download a virus will it still mess up your windows real instalation?
i do i need to have cd key and go on line and register it?

Please see the main website for supported systems. As host, you need Windows XP or higher, so you can't install this on Windows 98, that's far too old.

If you get a virus in the Guest, there is a slight possibility that the Host will get infected too. But these kinds of virus are rare and require advanced detection and knowledge about vulnerabilities of the environment it runs on.

As for the key, what do you mean? To run VB, or a Guest OS? Only for the latter one of course. VB itself is free to use, OSE under the GPL Public License, and the PUEL under the Personal Use and Evaluation Licence. Both explained on the main site.
