Virtualbox configuration continues to elude me. Age and comprehension might be the bulk of the problem, but I might be starting off wrong.
Is there a difference in the terminal install I indicated in subject vs the installation from synaptic.
Jaunty 9.04 will be the host and Initially I have mepis8 ISO image ready for guest.
Please advise as to user friendly step by step or any alternate advice or suggestion that might be of value to a challenged senior

Terminal use and Synaptic both use the repository, if you use apt-get on the terminal. The only difference is the looks.
Since you're using Ubuntu, you're better off by downloading the .deb from the website, or add the repository as described on the website. When adding the repository, you have to look for VirtualBox-2.2 in your package manager (Synaptic).

Since you're just a beginner, you're better off by downloading the file itself, double click on it, hit Install Package, enter your password when asked and you're done. After the installation, open the Users and Groups utility and add yourself to the VboxUsers group.

You can learn more about Ubuntu, repositories and users and groups by searching on the internet, buy or borrow a book about Linux and read the Help docs from the Ubuntu site.
