Running on a Ubuntu 9.04 Host. Got fully legal and licensed Vista Ultimate 32 bit DVD that I'm trying to install on a Vbox virtual machine. However, when I put in the disk and boot the VM I get this. First it says Windows is loading files but then almost immediately it says:
"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
blah blah blah
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred."

The DVD is good, I checked it by booting from it on my physical PC everything worked fine no problems. I get the same above error whether I use this disc in vmware server or virtual box. But no errors when booting direct on physical PC.

The Cd/DVD is set to mount host already. And I already have Enable Passthru checked because otherwise it gives a different msg about corrupt boot or something.

Using Virtual Box 2.2.4.

In case anyone cares.... I happened to have an external DVD-RW drive laying around which I connected via USB. Vbox recognized it and offered to let me use it instead of the internal drive. For whatever reason, the VM booted and is now in the process of installing Vista. So.... even though there is nothing outwardly wrong with my internal drive (I use it a lot), Vista liked the external one better. Go figure :)
