Install issues with Windows 7 RC

Hi,
I am trying to install a Windows 7 RC guest on a Windows Vista host running the Virtualbox 2.2.2 system and I am getting a BSOD. I had the RAM set to 1 GB and HD space set to 20 GB and I was getting a 0x0000007E error, so I have the hard drive set to 40 GB, the RAM at 2 GB and the window sits there at a black screen with a message that says Starting Windows. My host has an AMD 64 bit duel processor and the virtualization is enabled in the bios. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? THanks. Jeff

Is Virtualization also enabled for the Guest? If so, disable it, see how that goes. Any other special settings done, like enabled 3D?

Hi,
Spoke to soon, the new config is pulling the same BSOD with the same 0x0000007E error code after I tried it again. I have searched the error and the one KB that talked about a memory issue that needed a patch didn't work. I downloaded the patch and installed but it said it didn't apply to my system. So help! Thanks.

Hi Sasquatch,
I tried to disable the Virtualization, however it VirtualBox warned me that I needed it because of the 64 bit OS. I tried it any way but it did the same thing. I also saw a warning that I was asigning to much RAM so I backed it off to 1.5 GB and the warning went away, but still BSOD.

First there is a new version of VBox version 2.2.4 that addresses some issues with Windows 7 RC. You may want to install that before going any further.
Also could you post the guest settings that you are using along with the host memory.

Hi Perryg,
I will give that a try, thanks.

Download the ISO again, but this time with a different program. Use a download manager, different browser, whatever. It's possible the whole ISO is just corrupted. I got W7 32 bit installed just fine, just like other users here. It's also possible the whole 64 bit installer is messed up for running in VB.

jbdoty,
Why don't you post your guest setting (exact and all of them) along with the host memory.
Some extra settings that need to be on see mine below.
Also it may be because your system can not handle hardware-V. You would not be the first believe me.
Some people have had to update their bios and some have had to contact their computer manufacture only to find out that it would not work, or has been disabled and they would not turn it on for them.
If you disable the VT-x/AMD-v switch in VBox you will not be able to install 64 bit versions of the OS, so just turning it off and then trying to install 64 bit OSs will not work.
Have you tried to install the 32 bit version of Win 7 RC?
?
Windows 7
Base Memory: 1024 MB
Video Memory: 128 MB
Boot Order: Floppy, CD/DVD-ROM, Hard Disk
ACPI: Enabled
IO APIC: Enabled
VT-x/AMD-V: Enabled
Nested Paging: Disabled
PAE/NX: Enabled
3D Acceleration: Disabled

Here are my VM settings for W7, 32 bit. As you can see, I got it installed with just 512 RAM, and 8 MB VRAM. So that shouldn't be the real problem.
Name: Windows7
OS Type: Windows 7
Base Memory: 512 MB
Video Memory: 8 MB
Boot Order: Hard Disk, CD/DVD-ROM
ACPI: Enabled
IO APIC: Enabled
VT-x/AMD-V: Enabled
Nested Paging: Disabled
PAE/NX: Disabled
3D Acceleration: Disabled

Hi Guys,
I tried installing the the 64 bit Windows 7 ISO on VMWare Workstation and it worked fine. I then exported the build to an appliance and imported it into VirtualBox. This worked fine with my Fedora 10 build, but didn't work with the Windows 7 build. So the ISO is good. Here are my settings:
Windows 7
Base Memory: 1024 MB
Video Memory: 64 MB
Boot Order: Floppy, CD/DVD-ROM, Hard Disk
ACPI: Enabled
IO APIC: Enabled
VT-x/AMD-V: Enabled
Nested Paging: Disabled
PAE/NX: Disabled
3D Acceleration: Disabled
I am wondering if there is anyone out there that has installed the 64 bit version and what their settings are? I am also downloading the 32 bit version and I will give that a shot.

I can get Windows 7 RC (32 bit) up and running with no problem, but cannot get the Guest Additions, I have tried both the menu entry and mounting a CD/DVD, in both cases it gets to the interesting pint and then nothing happens, no screen, no list of files, nothing.
Are the Guest Additions not available for RC or am I doing something stupid?

Right, so I was doing something silly. I did not realise I had to dismount the CD (presumably the original boot ISO) Now all works fine.

HI, i've just downloaded the iso for Win 7 64 bit RC and can't install it into a new VM with VirtualBox 2.2.4 on Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit. What I get is "Loading Files" then "Starting Windows" then a Windows Boot Loader error "An unexpected error has occured" indicating an error code of "0xc0000225". I've set up the VM with VT extensions on, 2G RAM, 20G HD, audio on (Pulse Audio). Have tried the PCnet-FASTIII and Intel Pro 10/100 MT network adapters. Also tried installing from iso and DVD. Get the same result every time.
The machine is a 2 x Intel dual core with 8GB RAM, have had no problems installing other Windows OS's allbeit they were 32 bits.
VM Details:-
OS: Windows
Version: Other
Base Mem: 2048MB
Vid Mem: 64MB
3D Accel: On
Boot Order: CD/DVD, HD
Extended Features: Enable ACPI, Enable VT-x/AMD-V
Shared Clipboard: Bidirectional
IDE Controller Type: PIIX4
HDD: 20GB
Mount CD/DVD: ON, ISO Image File
Enable Audio: On
Host Audio Driver: PulseAudio
Audio Controller: ICH AC97
Network Adapter Type: PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973)
Attached to: NAT
No Serial Port Enabled
USB Controller Enabled for USB 2.0
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Craig

I've now fixed the problem with help from another place. What was needed was to switch on IO PIC and Nested Paging. Installation then went ahead ok.
Hope this helps someone.
