Ubuntu 9.04 WiXP32 Photoshop: unable to save files

Post by maraja »

Hallo,

since I have installed Vbox 2.2.2 I am not able anymore to save on a shared folder while using Photoshop. Everytime I try to save a file or save some changes on an exhisting file on the shared folder I get the following message:

"Could not save as: "y:\data\file.psd" because the file is locked. Use the 'properties' command in windows explorer to unlock the file."

Having a look at the shared folder I noticed that PS creates a file named ~ps(number).tmp and that the file is created with read-only permissions. So I tought its a PS problem rather than a VBoxone.
But, if I switch back to Vbox 2.1.4, I am able to save the file with no problems.

I am not sure where the problems is, I mean if it is a Vbox or PS issue, but I hope it is something that can be fixed as, actually, the only way to use PS for me is to save files on the Win c:\ drive and the move everything to the proper folders once finished.

I have waited the new release to see if the problem was solved already but I can confirm its still there on 2.2.4.

Thank you in advance to anyone helping on this issue!

I've got the same problem (and I was trying to save psd-files to my shared folders as well).
Wrong file attributes seem to be an often reported bug.

Anyway, you can easily work around this bug by setting up Samba - Ubuntu should have it preconfigured with a nautilus extension. I can give you some hints that worked for my Debian system.

1st: Make sure you are in group "sambashare" or, if Ubuntu differs here, try "net usershare" in a terminal. If you don't get an error about missing write permissions to "/var/lib/samba/usershares" you are good to go.

2nd: Have package "nautilus-share" installed (could be default in Ubuntu, not sure though).

Now you could easily share folders by right-clicking in Nautilus. To access them from your Windows guest simply "mount" them as you would do with Windows' shares. If you are using guest NAT the server's IP is the gateway (the guest should have set it up it via DHCP).

Of course there are other ways the get Samba up and running, but it all boils down to accessing your server via 10.0.2.2.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 904 Host and WinXP Guest. The problem cause by the "Virtualbox Guest Additions".
If i change it back to version 2.1.4 "Virtualbox Guest Additions", it work normally on the virtualbox 2.2.4.
Is anyone have the other solutions to solve this problem??
thanks.
