Problem With Windows XP As Guest On Windows Vista

Post by scottinpa37 »

Hi. This is all pretty new to me and I just found out about Virtual Box a few days ago. Basically, I am running Windows Vista and wanted to install Windows XP Pro as a Guest system (I think that's what it is called when on a virtual drive) I've had some problems with Vista and wanted to use XP again to run some programs. I installed XP and it seemed to work ok with the defaults settings. The problem I have is that I don't know how to setup a network connection so I can get on the internet with XP. It shows that I am connected at 100 mbps on my cable modem while using XP but I can't get on websites. The other problem I've had is trying to get my webcam program (Logitech Quickcam) to work on XP. The webcam won't show video and I wanted to ask what settings I should use for video? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe there is a simple guide that shows the basics on what settings to use? I just want to use Vista which is pre-installed on my computer and use XP for some things. I'm not advanced at this and my head is spinning from all the computer terms on the how-to's and forums. lol Thanks.

I assume you followed Sasquatch's advice and are using NAT. First thing to see is if you can ping yahoo.com and also can you ping 209.131.36.159
If you can ping the IP address and not the URL name then it is a DNS problem.

Next thing to do is open a command prompt in the XP guest and type in ipconfig /all and post the information here so we can see what the problem might be. While you are at it you might as well post the network settings that you are using in the guest setup.

As for the camera you may be out of luck. I have not seen anyone get them to work, but you might be the first for me. Regardless we will need to know how the camera is connected.

I have no idea why you opened another topic, but I'm locking this one, and moving the other one to this forum. Stick to one topic, you asked the same question in THREE!! different topics, that's bad etiquette. I removed the third one.
Read the Forum Posting Guide before opening a topic.
