Hi,
I'm fairly new to virtualbox. I have WinXP installed as the guest on an Ubuntu 8.04 host. Sounds playback does not work at all on WinXP, since in the control panel it tells me that no audio devices were detected. I have virtualbox set to "Host Driver: ALSA Audio Driver, Controller: Soundblaster 16", which is not working at all. I have tried changing the host driver and the controller through every configuration imaginable. I have also changed the audio setting in the Ubuntu sound panel to match that of the guest (i.e. ALSA when guest is using ALSA, OSS when guest is using OSS etc.), any further suggestions?

Forget SB 16, try Intel AC97.
Probably you must delete unrecognized devices in the guests hardware manager.
