Shared Folders + Load Registry Hive = Corrupt Hive

Post by 666f6f »

Hello all,

I have a Windows XP installation (let it be A), it's a real machine, but not a host. I also have an Ubuntu installation, which is the host OS and another Windows XP installation as guest (let it be B).

For some reason, I needed to edit C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system of Windows A, so I mounted the disk in Ubuntu -using NTFS-3g- and shared the mount point via a shared folder to Windows B.

In Windows B I started up regedit.exe and loaded the system hive of Windows A, the result is system hive gone corrupt. I wanted to get rid of Windows A anyway, but this seems like a bug, probably in the shared folders component.

VirtualBox Version: 2.1.4

Best,
