You need to use RAW Disk Access to accomplish this. Check the Windows Guests forum. There is a howto there which describes how to get a Windows install inside a VM using Linux, but you can use the other way around. The commands will be the same to get the RAW VMDK file, you only need to modify it a bit to fit it for Windows use.

Re: Using Fedora(guest) in Wix XP(host)
Check the manual, advanced topics, chapter 11 IIRC. The command is something like this:
You do need full access to the partition, but as you usually run with administrator privileges on Windows, this is not an issue.
After all this, you only need to install the GRUB boot loader in the separate MBR file, done using a live CD.
Code: Select all
VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename <fedora image name> -rawdisk \\.\PhysicalDrive0 -partitions <which partition Fedora is on, check with internalcommands listpartitions> -mbr <name for the mbr file, needed to boot the VM properly> -registerAfter all this, you only need to install the GRUB boot loader in the separate MBR file, done using a live CD.
