IE App Compat images and VirtualBox

Is anyone out there successfully running Microsoft's IE App Compatibility VHD system images in VirtualBox?
MS provides these so people can test their Web sites in old versions of IE -- virtualization allows them to get around IE's architectural limitation that you can only have one version installed on a given PC at a time. Each image provides a complete Windows XP or Vista guest with a particular version of IE installed.
They're supposed to be used with Microsoft's Virtual PC product, but since all they are is VHD-formatted hard drive images, it seems like they should work in VirtualBox as well. However, while they load fine in Virtual PC, if you set up a new VM in VirtualBox with the VHD image as its boot hard drive, it bluescreens on bootup (at least for me).
I'm not sure if this is a VM configuration issue, a limitation in VirtualBox's handling of VHD-formatted drive images, or something else entirely, so I thought I'd ask the experts
