Disappearing windows in Ubuntu 9.04 guest

I'm running Virtual Box in Windows Vista 32bit with Ubuntu 9.04 as a guest OS.

When I'm in full screen mode in Ubuntu and then take it out of full screen mode, some times the Virtual Box window sometimes becomes a bit to small. When this happens, the programs running in Ubuntu disappear from the task bar. I can't figure out a way to bring them back. I don't know how to use linux that well. They are still running in the task manager. Also this was never a problem before. It only started once beginning to use Ubuntu 9.04 and Virtual Box 2.2.2 with graphics enabled.

Any easy solutions to fix this?

Thanks

Check the other view ports of the Guest, it might have slided to a different one.

yes that is actually one of the first things i've tried. however the lost windows are nowhere to be found.
i usually end up logging out, which abruptly will end those tasks, and logging back in.

Have you tried it with the VBox 3D effects turned off? I found that my Linux distros on Vista host with 3D on while it was visually appealing cause all sorts of small but to me important problems. After turning it off they went away.

I found the solution!

In Ubuntu 9.04's Compiz Settings Manager, DISABLE the "Place Windows" feature found in the Window Management category.

Once you do so, if you do remove your virtual machine from the full screen mode, windows will not vanish when they no longer fit on the screen!
