Shared folder not working

Post by cledith »

Hey everyone,

I'm having some trouble getting shared folders to work. I'm running WinXP on my Host Debian Squeeze with kernel 2.6.26-2-686. I installed the virtualbox from the Debian repository as well as the virtualbox-ose-guest-2.6.26-2-686 package. Afterwards I called
VBoxManage sharedfolder add "WinXP" -name "tmp" -hostpath "/home/user/tmp"
with the guest system being shut down.

When I open the properties for the image and select shared folders, tmp is listed. So far so good. When I now boot the guest system and try to connect by typing
net use z: \\vboxsvr\tmp
I only get the message, that WinXP cannot find the path. I scanned through some threads here and there, but according to them I do everything right. Am I? If so, can someone tell my why this isn't working?

Thanks! I appreciate your help!

Did you install the guest additions in the guest aka windows?
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Uh oh, no! Did I miss something there? Thanks a lot. I must have missed this. It's working now.
