Sound is recorded in "slow motion"

Hello,
I use Virtualbox 2.2.2 (PUEL) on Ubuntu 9.04. I run Windows XP as the guest OS. In Ubuntu I use PulseAudio as my sound driver (but it actually doesn't metter, under ALSA I get exactly the same results) and I'd like to use the microphone in the guest OS. It kind of works, but the sound is recorded in "slow motion" and is very distorted. When I record it (for example) in Audacity, the line showing the actual position in fact moves slowly then it should. I get approximately one second of recording after around two seconds of speaking to the microphone.
Here is the sample of the recorded audio:
http://kubaz.cz/sample.wav . I recorded counting from 1 to 10 in one second intervals.
I appreciate any suggestions,
Jakub Marian

I am NOT asking you to tell me that I should use google, but to help me if you know the possible source of the problem. I have already spent hours trying to find out the solution myself. NONE of the threads here is concerned with this ussue.

There are a lot of variables that can apply that will impede your audio.
The audio card, the drivers that you use in the host, the type of audio that the guest is trying to emulate, the drivers that Windows uses for the audio that you have selected.
As well as the amount of RAM that you have given the guest and the amount of RAM that the host has in total and how much is actually left to use for the application.
Not to mention the acceleration of Windows.
Things to check:
How much resources the guest has available to it (is it enough to actually perform the way it needs too).
Is Windows needing to swap a lot or can it run the applications needed in RAM?
Post your settings for the guest and hosts and maybe we can figure it out. All I saw was you have a problem and little to no information except the audio source that you are trying to use. The links that was provided did mention that choppy and distorted audio so that is the reason I sent it.

I have 4 GB of RAM in my system and give 1,5 GB to the guest. I use AC'97 for emulation and I tried standard Windows drivers as well as Realtek drivers. In the host system everything works flawlessly and under VMWare I had no problem with the microphone. Here's a screenshot which contains (I hope) important part of the guest configuration:

I don't know what to tell you. I just finished testing it on my system again and it worked as good as it always does. It is more than adequate for skype and I use it a lot for remote communication similar to VOIP. But there was no delay in the audio or clipping. Just some minor mic distortion from my poor excuse of a mic from my breathing (very poor noise canceling). The only difference I see is I am on a Windows host. My settings for the guest are as in the screen shot.

Well, sometimes computers don't do what we want them to do. Altough there's no rational explanation for their behavior, they just decided to do things their way. I think that this is that case

. I am afraid that it is some extraordinarily rare problem which just won't be solved intentionally; it might get fixed as time goes and software in my computer gets upgraded, but the real source of the problem will remain unclear (I've already encountered more problems of this kind, and I am sure that everybody who uses computers as much as I do knows what I am talking about).
Thank you for your time and effort anyway. Nevertheless, if anybody else had the similar problem and found the solution, I would gratefully accept it.

I had the same problem. I have Jaunt 9.04 as host and XP as guest. I updated to virtualbox 3.0.2 and it didn't fix it. What made the trick for me was to change from PulseAudio to ALSA.
