Hi,
I've been using VirtualBox for some time now running Windows XP on OS X and have experienced no issues.

This morning however, when I went to launch my XP, I got the following message...
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.
Abort
the error message also gives me the following details...
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP.
Virtual machine 'Windows XP' has terminated unexpectedly during startup.

NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Machine
IMachine {13420cbb-175a-4456-85d0-301126dfdec7}
I've got no idea what I am supposed to do to be able to access my xp once again. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Well, I've managed to get VirtualBox to run again, by reinstalling, but I still don't know why it failed and why reinstalling has corrected it.

I'm pretty new to this VirtualBox stuff so should I expect this to occur in the future or is it just a bug?

I have the same problem with my mac book pro Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G55) Darwin 9.6.0 using virtualbox 2.2.2 to run XP. I have a cd in the disc drive which was put in under XP and so OSX cant see it. I now cant get back into XP on virtualbox and Ive lost the XP instal disc so Id really prefer not to reinstall virtualbox. Any ideas?

Reinstalling virtualbox does not lose your guests.
So try a reinstall of it and then reboot your mac.

I had the same problem after my computer came back from SAV (I had a problem of white flash on the screen of my MAC).

I think the problem occur when the hardware change. Thus, I suppose the hardware is checked when virtualbox is installed and that you must reinstall virtualbox each time you change your hardware (I think, in my case, that it was the motherboard).

The good point is, you can deinstall and reinstall virtualbox without deleting your configuration, this include virtual machines and virtual hard disk.

PS : My post was just to try to explain this behaviour in the hope it will help someone.

Just want to say thank you!
Reinstalling vm and extension did it on the fly.
Saved a lot of work and worries.
Great!
