display corruption

Hey every1

I successfully installed 2.2.2 , however when i tried running the guest os , the vm display was really corrupted (looked as if the screen would not clear between updates) . I am running this on gentoo 2.6.29 (custom vanilla) , nvidia 8600 (driver ver 180.44) , on a twinview config . My window manager is compiz-fusion... the odd thing is that if i were to click on the power off machine (which would tint the screen black) it momentarily make the screen look sane. I tried the different video options to no avail . Also as soon I turn a vm on the virtualbox splash screen is also washed out in the display ... Could this be an sdl issue ? I'm using 1.2.13..

Thanx for any help ...

stan

Do you have things like Cairo running or something? Users have mentioned here that running ARGB apps can cause such display corruption. Also, disable Compiz-Fusion and start a VM, check how that works.

Just a quick pointer - virtualbox (2.2.2) runs fine with compiz as long as you do not open any applications using hw transparency first (like gnome-terminal with trans. background) . Just a quick observation .. other than that no problems ..

I had a same issue with virtualbox 3.0.0 + debian on Windows Vista, where the gdm greeting screen is corrupted. Restarting gdm wouldn't help. But the display comes back to normal if kill gdm and run "startx" directly.
