What IP address should I config in guest linux

Post by patrickli »

Hi,

I have following settings and i wonder what static IP should I input on guest linux? Thanks in advance.
(I have tried 10.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.1 but fail)

host OS : Windows XP pro (virtualbox host-only network adapter IP default is 192.168.56.1)
VB version: 2.2.2
guest OS: linux (network adapter running bridge instead of NAT)

ps I will install more than one guest linux and guest windows xp so that guest linux can communicate to another guest (linux and winXP) on the same network segment.

When you use Bridged, you use the same range as your Host. If your Host uses DHCP, set the Guest to do the same.
If you want to have the Guests to only communicate with each other, you can use Internal Networking too, instead of Bridged. Only downside, it won't be accessible from your own network, and they won't be able to go outside, to say, the internet. You would need a second virtual NIC for that.
