3d studio max error

I'm trying to get 3dsmax working on xp (host/guest) but all I can turn on is Software rendering, both direct3d and opengl is crashing with an error. Is this because of the guest addition vga driver...? Could anyone make it work? Does it work without the guest addition?

Direct3D is a requirement and OpenGL is optional.

VBox only supports OpenGL at this time.
- Also you can google these things by using your keywords followed with site:forums.virtualbox.org
