USB Scanner/Vista x64 host/Ubuntu 9.04 guest

Post by bhakeman »

I'm trying to access a CanoScan LiDe 20 on my virtual Ubuntu machine. I've set up a USB filter to look for the scanner but when I have ubuntu running, it says it's being accessed already.

Does it matter that the scanner isn't recognized by the host machine in the first place? (There are currently no x64 Vista drivers for the scanner. The scanner works with ubuntu when I use a LiveCD and xsane.) I'm trying to avoid a dual boot (wife isn't fond of me tinkering with our only home pc to begin with), and I'd like to be able to access the scanner without having to shut down the pc and reboot to a liveCD every time I want to use our scanner.

Am I missing a step here?

Thanks

Use a blank filter (.) and then boot the guest. Unplug the USB device and plug it back in to get focus and it should appear in the guest.

Works, thanks.

I had set up a filter for the specific device, but it didn't work. I didn't think that the "." filter would do the trick. Now I suppose I need to set up a shared folder so scanned images on the guest os can be accessed by the host os.

I have a host Winsows XP system and my guest is Ubuntu 9.04. When I plug in the USB device Kingston DataTravel 2.0 it is not recognized by the host, appear in VirtualBox, but does not appear in the guest. What must I do to get access to my USB device and where can I find it in filesystem on the guest?
