Hi, I am having problems with virtualbox on my laptop dell inspiron 1521, proc: turion 64 x2. OS: Lenny
2.26-2
Even with the recent update, when I enable the AMD-V extension on the VM settings,
after the VM is turned on and start booting the OS, solaris or winxp in my case), the machine
reboots, or to be more specific, it powercicles, it just goes black and start to boot.
With amd-v disable, the VM boots ok.

Anyone having this problem? any way to check what's going on?

drivers are loaded:
# lsmod |grep vbox
vboxnetflt 91532 1
vboxdrv 1688332 2 vboxnetflt

uname -a:
Linux Legolas 2.6.26-2-amd64 #1 SMP Wed May 13 15:37:46 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

thanks in advance

Hi,

Having similar problem with Dell 1721, AMD64. Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit, vbox PUEL. Trying to install vista 64 bit guest from ISO; runs the "Loading Windows Files" progress bar on boot, when progress bar is complete the host reboots itself (or less frequently (though with the same guest config) becomes non-responsive and requires hard boot). Amd-v is enabled in both host BIOS and guest settings.

well, yes, the 1721 is the same but with 17" lcd, I guess. ... I assume you upgraded the bios to A06, the latest from
2008 ... I also enabled the amd-v in the bios (as far as I remember) but I'll double check next time I boot it ... but
otherwise, the vbox would not detect it, would it? .. anyway .. seems like we picked the wrong lapis for this ... :-/

thanks for the responses ... only hope dell would have a response too ... :?

BIOS is on A07 now for the 1721 - the AMD-v is on in the BIOs, and according to vbox, if I'm reading the docs properly, it wont recognise a 64 bit guest without the AMD-v switched on; if you try and disable it in the Vbox guest config it switches it back on. Yeah, I'm going to have a crack at dell next, though I'm not holding out a lot of hope...
