Installing UbuntuStudio 9.04: Hang on "Configuring apt"

Post by Piyono »

I'm trying to install UbuntuStudio 9.04 in a VirtualBox machine on my XP box and it keeps hanging at this point:

---|Configuring apt|---
18%
Scanning the CD-ROM...

This is my first time playing with a virtual machine of any kind. Everything seems to be set up properly but hey, who knows.

The MD5 hash of the UbuntuStudio ISO image checks out, so that's not the problem.

Any ideas?

How about some more information?

Forum Posting Guideline

  • What are the VBox settings (all of them) for the guest?
  • What (if any) error messages are you getting?

Ah, yes.
OK, hardware in my host box:
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Core Duo 2140
Corsair Balistix 2GB
WD and Seagate HDDs

Attached to this message is a screencap of my VirtualBox machine setup and the installation of UbuntuStudio 9.04.

The virtual hard drive onto which I'm installing Ubuntu is on a partition on the HDD on SATA 0, which is the same HDD containing my host OS partition.

Reading through this forum and others one I've come across similar problems but none precisely like mine. For some people the apt hang times out after a while and the installation continues. So far it's been sitting frozen here for 3 hours or so. I just thought I'd wait and see if it would clear up on its own, although I'm reaching the limits of my patience. Some say that disabling the network adapter and reinstalling helps. Not in my case.

So far I'm stumped.

Turn PAE on and give it a shot.

Better, instead of enabling PAE, disable VT-x/AMD-v.

for me it only worked if I did both: enabled PAE and disabled VT-x/AMD-v.
