Windows Guest Aborts

Hi

I am running Virtualbox under openSuse 11.0 32 bit. I have been using VirtualBox for some time without problems. Yesterday, I upgraded from 2.1.4 to 2.2.2. Everything seemed to work, to the extent that I was able to work on my Windows XP installation yesterday. Today, it aborts.

The system starts, goes through all of the Windows start-ups, takes me to the Windows desktop and then completely aborts.....

OK, I've fixed it - but I'll complete the post in case it helps anyone else.

Yesterday, I had an internet connection. Today, I'm working on a site where I don't have internet access from my laptop (using client's desktop for this). I have managed to get my XP installation working by disabling the network adapter and starting XP. It now seems to work, so anyone else who has aspects of their normal system unavailable should disable these aspects and re-try.

BUT - does anyone know why the lack of an ethernet or wireless connection should cause such a catastrophic failure???

Also - is there a log file I can check if it happens again to identify the problem quicker?

And just to prove it works, I'm now at home with my wireless working, and XP is running fine again with networking enabled.

Setup a second adapter in VBox as host-only. This should fix that problem.

See Chapter 6 virtual networking in the VBox users guide.

Also you should be able to click the network icon in the lower right corner and take the check mark out of the internet connection instead of the VBox GUI.
