Many crashes on Vista x64 host

Post by yerun »

Unfortunately Virtualbox does not seem the solid product I had hoped for.
Tonight I tried to set up 2 Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) guests, but Virtualbox keeps crashing.
First I thought it was due to the virtual SCSI disk controllers, when I removed them all seemed well again.

Until virtualbox keeped hanging again and caused more crashes. No way to kill the vbox process.. which keeps eating 50 percent CPU time so I have to reboot the host AGAIN.
Because virtualbox is regularly updated and fixes are made i wasn't planning on looking somewhere else (VMware, VirtualPC).

But now I have to conclude virtualbox is a rather unstable product. :(
My next step is to try VMware I think.
Hopefully someday Virtualbox will be more stable and I will start to use it again.
Cheers!

The most stable versions, to my opinion, are 2.08 and 2.14. Next to that the Host needs to be clean, especially vista Hosts are full of services that don't play nice with virtual solutions.

Now I'm trying out Vmware Workstation.. see how that goes.
So far I installed 2 x Server 2003 and 1 x XP.. no crashes (yet).
