Windows 7 RC x64 Refuses to Install

Post by RealityRipple »

Every time I try to install VirtualBox, whether USB and Networking are enabled or not, I get an error that the Setup Wizard ended prematurely. I've attached my log files, in case they help to diagnose my problem.

A virtualizer inside another virtualizer probably will not work.

Windows 7 beta & Release Candidate is a development OS and not supported by the community (us volunteers/mods) directly. Because it's still in development, changes can be made at the last moment, which could cause to render all support done in previous versions useless and possibly cause serious issues.

What do you mean a virtualizer inside another virtualizer? Win7 is my main OS, not a virtual one.

This a pretty clean win 7 version right? I can tell you at least that on a 32bit version that Virtual box does install. When you talk of networking and usb, is that the point where it failed? I'd just like to make sure that your accepting drivers and such on install.

Just thought I'd ask.

edit...

Just thought I'd post this link as it is the error specified. Maybe somewhere it will help.

Fairly clean, yes. I don't know exactly where it fails, though the error "DIFXAPP: ERROR - The operating system you are running on is not supported. Only Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows codenamed Longhorn are supported." seems to be the cause. Even if I disable networking and USB, it still fails, so I'm sure that's not the problem. This ticket suggests using Portable VBox, which I'm trying right now.

Edit: Portable seems to work just fine, though I'm not sure it has USB (which is part of the reason I wanted this in the first place).

I'd say just what you already know. A version check is failing. You could try if there is a compatibility fix like vista has"run as" and tell it to install as vista?

This is the one visible error that sticks out for me. Just a thought would be to update your video drivers and see if that remove this error.

These are the problems that you are going to get trying to run Win7 (especially the 64 bit version) as the primary OS. This more than like is a driver signing error, and since most of the products that you are going to want to install in Win 7 are not recognized yet you are going to see more. Look for ways around the ACL by searching, to see if it is possible.

Well, the portable version worked until I tried to use the USB device I wanted and my computer BlueScreened. Looks like I won't be using this after all...
