Using vmware image hangs

I just tried to use a vmware image I have (containing windows XP) and things are not working well.

When I run the virtual machine based on the vmware vmdk file, I get a black screen and nothing happens. When I close this machine and try running it again, I get the windows screen asking if I want to start in safe mode. After starting in safe mode I start getting a list of drivers, and when it reaches windows\system32\drivers\agp440.sys it hangs.

I also tried using clonehd to convert to VDI format, with the exact same results.

Any suggestions?

You need to read section 3.8 as well as the links in that chapter of the VBox Users guide.
Note
The OVF standard is complex, and support in VirtualBox is an ongoing process. In particular, no guarantee is made that VirtualBox supports all appliances created by other virtualization software. For a list of know limitations, please see Chapter 13, Known issues.
I have also found that if the VMware guest extensions were not removed before it was imported it can also cause a problem. But the main thing you need to remember is the above statement.
