Post by hiteshthappa »

Hi

I am new to using virtual box...here is my problem I have windows xp as the base OS and i installed virtualbox on that.
Then I created a solaris vdi of 10 gb. but when i started the Solaris installation it says no partition to install Solaris.

Again I tried to install Ubuntu and this time installation continued till 43% and suddenly it threw an error sayin no out enought memory.... I dont really understand what's happening please help me.....

What version of VBox are you using?
How much memory (RAM) do you have on the Host?
How much are you trying to give the guest?

Well there's your problem. You need more RAM memory.

Hi

Ok I get it...I need more RAM but why i cannot install solaris. It does not even start installation and keeps asking for partition where as, I had assigned 10 gb to solaris vdi.

The solaris Guest needs 1gb ram before it installs normally, any value below that can cause strange behaviour. After its installed you can turn ram down a bit.

Hi

Thanks, but solaris continues installation even if there's RAm less than 512MB the only problem is it runs in text mode and not GUI.
Where my installalation halts is when I have to assign partition to it. It says there is no disc to install solaris where as i have a 10 gb solaris vdi assigned.

Try different controller types for the VM vdi, I think plain IDE with sata toggled on works.
